Correctional Facilities Committee Report - October 2024
Greetings Area 41,
I’m Marsha, I’m an alcoholic and the Area 41 Correctional Facilities Committee Chair. First off I want to thank the Technology and Communications Committee for all the hard work on updating our Area Website. I love cranes! Thank you to the Agenda Committee for doing the Area Inventory. Thank you to the Ad Hoc Functions Committee for all the time and hard work put into trying to determine what will work best for our Area. Russ and I got to attend the 27 th National Archives Workshop in Des Moines Iowa. What a wonderful event! Our Area 41 Archivist was there as well. The Correctional Facilities Committee met at 9:00 AM with 14 members in attendance. We opened with a moment of silence and the Serenity Prayer. We had a productive meeting with lots of participation and sharing. We continue to compile the list of what AA meetings are being taken into which correctional facilities and when. More information was added to the list and we will be putting that list on the Area 41 Website. There are 10 Nebraska State Prisons and we take meetings into or are eligible to take meetings into 8 of those prisons. Quarterly requests were made to the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) to take meetings in with no success. We continue to focus on getting meetings into the youth facilities.
The Corrections Desk at the General Service Office (GSO) sent out a survey to gather information about corrections work. The link is https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5J7PVS5 and was sent to the members of the committee. Our Delegate visited the meeting and encouraged everyone to complete the survey. Discussion began about the name of the committee. This committee is commonly referred to as the “Corrections” Committee but in the Area 41 Service Handbook the committee is called “Correctional Facilities” Committee. In the General Service Board (GSB) service structure the committee is called “Corrections.” The committee will submit an agenda item requesting a name change to align with the GSB service structure and to reflect what is already being done. Area 41 Accessibilities, Accommodations, Treatment, and Remote Communities Committee Chair was asked to talk with this committee about Bridging The Gap (BTG) at the January 2025 Area meeting. The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer at 11:45 am.
Yours in service - Marsha S.
