Bridging the Gap connects an individual in a treatment or correctional facility to a temporary contact within the program. It is designed to help the new person make the transition; attend meetings and gain a sponsor.

As you know, one of the more "slippery" places in a the journey to sobriety is between the door of the treatment facility and the door of the first A.A. group meeting. Some of us can tell you that, even though we heard of A.A. within treatment, we were too fearful to attend our first meeting.

Treatment facilities often enforce the importance of having a temporary contact as the essential link between treatment and recovery. It is suggested that the temporary contact take the newcomer to a variety of A.A. meetings, introduce him / her to other A.A. members to ensure that their experience is positive.
